The Avenger is a ground attack drone aircraft of the United States Army.

Gameplay[]

Avengers are decent at their role, featuring powerful missiles to target foes on the ground, and can be further upgraded to have countermeasures.

Despite being not quite the same as the F-35 in the original, Avengers are still decently effective, as their price remains unchanged in the single-resource economy system and they're still the cheapest of the three. As a result, these units are relatively easy to field early. In terms of attacking ground targets, Avengers do so very well, with one being able to snipe unsuspecting enemy artillery, and a couple could seriously dent an attack column or cripple stronger units. Countermeasures also provide it with some relative safety from early-game anti-air and unless it flies over a dense cluster of such units, it will dish out lots of punishment.

In several aspects, Avenger actually loses out to its counterparts in other factions or just in general. Unlike the F-35, Avenger lacks weapons to engage enemy aircraft, nor does it have optical camouflage to obstruct itself from enemy view. Air Control Centers indeed render this irrelevant for both, but the fact still stands in its vulnerability to anything that flies due to the limited effectiveness of countermeasures on their own, not to mention even without such assistance, it's much easier to destroy one. Concentrated anti-air fire will destroy it just as easily as anything else. What makes it worse is that B-2 Spirit, despite being similarly helpless against aerial foes, is much better at shutting down enemy attacks, leaving Avenger with little use throughout the whole game. This often limits Avengers to targeting weaker threats that may not necessitate its deployment at times but are too fast for other units to catch. Being one of the more accurate options against ground units from air, however, Avengers still do well when the likes of Guardian are simply unable to get there.
