The MG Nest is a base defense structure of the United States Army.

Gameplay[]

The MG nest is a simple but versatile sentry gun emplacement. Initially only effective versus infantry and limited by base perimeters, it can be later expanded with additional weapons to drastically improve its effectiveness as well as universal deployment.

The strong aspects of the MG nest are its defensive potency, especially in the early game, as it's cheap to field and upgrade with no power consumption. Since the US Army is known for its ability to maintain a strong credit economy, it suits them extremely well with its low cost, and retains its further relevance with upgrades. One may not be particularly lethal, but infantry usually can't fight their way through at the start, and by the times light harassment vehicles do arrive, it can put a serious dent in them, with a few being completely impenetrable. Notably, it works well with the Logistical Center, as it heals any damage done to the turret in between attacks, preserving its upgrades for prolonged periods. Defense Projection can be used to deploy it in key areas to assist any units stationed there.

An overall straightforward building, the MG nest has obvious weaknesses as well. It has a relatively low range, so it's usually forced to stand in the line of fire, which doesn't pair well with its mediocre health. Enemy artillery units, fixed wing aircraft and those abusing NLOS guidance, such as the aptly named NLOS-C, can easily whittle it down or even hit the base easily, so it is of questionable value when defending against them unless other units are used to pressure attackers. Unlike Chimera's Sentinel turret, it can't do anything against enemy missiles or stealth units, necessitating the likes of Phalanx (which provides additional firepower on top of complementing it) to deal with such threats. Defense Projection does not mesh well as the US Army's construction vehicle has no optical camouflage and cannot be controlled, so without a firm control over the map, it sees little use that way. Nevertheless, the MG nest is still strong in its own regard, and is great for fortifying bases.
