The Outpost is a utility structure of the Chimera.

Gameplay[]

Chimera's Outposts, despite being frail, are both essential and versatile, being the only other building that stocks resources, expands the construction zone and generates additional electricity. They can be converted individually with one of the three upgrades, serving as a secondary HQ with less functionality, their only method to repair their structures/vehicles and another stable source of credit income, respectively.

Outposts are the only other Chimera building that generate electricity, and indeed they do not have a prohibitively high cost like their HQ with more efficiency of aluminum per electricity produced (375 as opposed to 500). The extra power is always good to have, but is perhaps most important for supporting Sentinel Turrets, necessary for protecting distant Outposts and Refineries. It is also their cheapest means of expanding their construction zone. Construction Outposts are essentially cheaper HQs that produce all SPEAR Protocol structures (save for Syntech Lab/Rare Earth Outpost), and with their big selection it's easy to further reinforce bases with structures that produce units while cutting construction times. The Repair Outpost is no slouch either, being arguably the most useful out of the three since it can heal damaged vehicles and structures. Though it cannot move, it has a medium AOE, and an upgrade that improves both it as well as the healing rate, making it significantly more effective at both base and frontline defense. It also doubles as a supportive option for other allies, especially if they are of different factions, as their sources of structure and vehicle healing are much less efficient. Although the Income Outpost isn't the most accessible, it does provide a bit extra while costing much less than the HQ to pay for itself quickly, and since Outposts do not cost any power, it's much easier to field many, not to mention potentially supporting the construction of Syntech Labs, which require credits.

Though Outposts are some of the strongest structures in the entire game with their utility, they don't fare as well when specifics are factored in. They don't expand the construction zone much, and 1500 aluminum is a lot to pay for in any stage of the game, forcing Chimera to evaluate their setup and deploy Syntech Labs early to ensure they still have the necessary resources. Their fragility are also of note, and their power generation means they aren't throwaway buildings like the FOB and Extension Module, either. The Construction Outpost and Income Outpost are, ironically, outclassed by the HQ, since the HQ, while significantly more expensive, is much tougher, produces all structures, and its net income exceeds the Income Outpost, not to mention the cumulative costs are enough for any player to reconsider their investment, as conversions are permanent. The Repair Outpost is obviously unable to move and can't heal itself, so the setup of an additional one may be required to compensate, and it stops working as soon as it comes under heavy fire as Outposts fall very quickly. None of these can erase the Outpost's value, however.
