The THOR Control Center is a superweapon of the Cartel.

Gameplay[]

THOR (THOR stands for “Tactical High Orbital Railgun”) Control Centers are some of the most dangerous structures, mixing a combination of versatility, capacity and devastation.

Perhaps the greatest advantage of THOR is its cheap ammunition. It only costs 750 rare earth, on par with the Omega Blitzer but triple that of the Peacekeeper. This is offset however by Cartel's natural access to the Underground Stock Market, the only building that generates rare earth, as well as additional costs for its counterparts' munitions. This effectively, albeit slowly, allows Cartel to maintain their super weapon indefinitely. While it is only able to store four charges, the aforementioned point still stands, and several THOR Control Centers can be built to amass a huge stockpile of strikes in order to bypass any super weapon defense a faction has to offer. Cartel is no slouch in getting credits either, making this a sustainable practice as well. Its fast projectile velocity usually doesn't matter, but does has its merits as the enemy has little time to react once it's launched.

Due to the small strike area, THOR often end up dealing less damage when in action than expected. It is unable to level large portions of a base, and even in the case where it does get to hit a critical target it won't be able to do much else. THOR strikes only cost rare earth, indeed, and Cartel has their ways of getting credits, but that on its own requires a very delicate setup due to the high cost of the Underground Stock Market, and several THORs producing simultaneously can easily result in a zero or negative sum. Like any super weapon, THOR strikes also have a long production time which even the Accelerator doesn't help much with, and can be outpaced by enemy defenses at times. Nevertheless, THOR is still a devastating super weapon, capable of raining down destruction like none other in its own fashion.
